For all of you who made it out that evening – Thank you so much! The night was a complete success on all parts. We had the pleasure of working with tap dancers Jessie Sawyers, Mark Mendonca, Travis Knights and theVAM Performance modern dance troop. The entire production was a thrill to be a part of and we learned a lot from working with the dancers. Seattle has an incredible artistic community and on Wednesday, April 7th we got to jam with many more talented local dancers and musicians at the Theatre Off Jackson. Special thanks to Jessie Sawyers for her tireless work in producing the entire FLOW series and bring real ‘flow’ in a fun and collaborative experience.

Enjoy the video clip below of us playing ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ by Average White Band with 22 tap dancers! (special guests Jason Parker on Trumpet & George Bullock on Guitar):

Here’s a live recording of The Teaching’s composition ‘Sea Town’ from his recital:

Jacob played with such heart that evening and his instructors, friends and family seemed very pleased by his performance and our music. We’ve had the pleasure of hearing him mature into a well-rounded musician over the past 2 and half years both at Lo-Fi and LUCID. We had almost forgotten that we had all come full circle together until Jacob reminded us that evening that we also played his entrance performance. It seemed very fitting that he invited us to close this chapter of his music education at Cornish.

The Teaching would once again like to congratulate him on a successful recital and being an all-round COLD CAT!

Benefitting the Starlight Children’s Foundation

On Sunday, April 4th The Teaching will share the stage with some amazing tap & modern dancers for the first time ever! Tap dancer Jessie Sawyers, who is a local artist and dancer, approached The Teaching early in February about putting on this collaborative performance together at The Triple Door and to also benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation. We happily accepted and are so excited to work with such talented and innovative artists. They were attracted to The Teaching’s sound after hearing us at The Hang at Lo-Fi nearly a year ago and it will be really incredible to see how our music “flows” with their dancing. We’ll also have the fun challenge of stretching from our normal music approach and accompanying them on a selection of tunes outside our repertoire with song selections from Robert Glasper, Average White Band and Nina Simone. Also, we’ll be having our good friend and local trumpeter Jason Parker joining us on stage for a few selections as well.

Join us on Sunday, April 4th for a Teaching performance unlike any you’ve seen before. It’s going to be a real treat to work with Jessie and her crew and we hope you’ll be there to witness a beautiful new work.
