You never know who you’re going to meet at a jam session. Since the cutting contests of stride piano players in the homes and speakeasies of 1920s Harlem, jams have been an important part of the jazz music world. They offer opportunities for the birth of new bands and combinations, and for the uninitiated to play and learn, especially if the jam is hosted by a band like The Teaching. The Teaching’s four-year, open-stage jam in Seattle was called The Hang. From beginners to seasoned stars on tour like Roy Hargrove and Robert Glasper, musicians knew The Hang was the place to be in Seattle on Thursdays.
Stop the presses! The rumors are true! After over a 2 year hiatus from our beloved annual trips out to Colorado, The Teaching will return on Monday, June 23rd for a very special show at Dazzle Restaurant & Lounge. We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to get back to Colorado and we’re thrilled to announce this trip! This concert is following the momentum from our recent Sold-Out show at Triple Door, Seattle, WA, celebrating our recent GRAMMY Nomination for work on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ album.
Last Sunday, May 4th The Teaching released our 4th full-length CD to a full-house of excited listeners at Triple Door in Seattle, WA. The evening was truly a memorable & heart-connecting night that we’ll never forget. We thank all of you who were able to come out and celebrate so many incredible moments including our GRAMMY Nomination in January, the release of newest Live Album ‘Birds In Flight’, and of course the recent arrival of Josh’s daughter Freja (who was also in attendance with the Rawlings Family that evening). To say we were overflowing with joy would be an understatement – we were in total bliss giving hugs and just connecting with so many lovely people with our music that night!
